Energy Level Jumps

Make a hydrogen electron jump between levels and see the photon.

Hydrogen energy levels

Tip: click a level to pick where the electron starts, then click another level to jump there.

Send in a photon

The electron is in level 2. Send a photon of this wavelength (nm). Does it jump up?

No falls yet.

Energy of level n = -13.6 / n² eV. Photon energy = the difference between two levels. Wavelength (nm) = 1240 / energy (eV). Falls into level 1 give ultraviolet light and falls into level 3 give infrared light, so you cannot see them.
