Population Pyramid Simulator
Read an age structure diagram, change the fertility rate, life expectancy, and migration behind it, and watch the pyramid change from 1950 to 2100. Then solve a mystery country. Free, with no login.

Age Structure Diagrams and Total Fertility Rate Stations
The simulator shows why a pyramid has the shape it does. The free station activity is the classroom version: students build Kenya's population pyramid from real 2023 UN data, then analyze four mystery pyramids.
Build a pyramid
Students plot Kenya's age structure from real 2023 UN data, so they handle the numbers before they interpret the shape.
Four mystery pyramids
Niger, the United States, India, and Japan. Students use shape and total fertility rate to work out what each country is facing.

Load the same five countries in the simulator. Compare their shapes, then change one factor at a time to see what moves the pyramid.
About the model: a simplified cohort model built on approximate UN data, so its numbers are close to the real ones but not official, and they will differ slightly from the 2023 data in the activity. For official figures, use the U.S. Census Bureau International Database or the UN World Population Prospects. Factor effects in "Change it" are simplified so students can compare them, not exact predictions.
